Ymir Report #27 — Overwhelmed with the war in Europe

Heya friend!

Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building.

INTRO

I've been feeling overwhelmed by what's happening in Europe.

I'm a news addict. The past few years have been difficult for me to manage it. But the current situation in Ukraine really kicked this in overdrive.

Right now, I'm struggling with concentration. It's hard to focus and motivate myself. So I've just focused on fixing smaller issues in Ymir and consulting work. I haven't done any marketing work.

PRODUCT

You can always view the history of Ymir's product development at https://ymirapp.com/changelog.

Lots of work behind the scenes with the application this cycle. I did some maintenance and upgraded to Laravel 9. Ran into a few issues in the process, which took a while to fix.

Also solved an annoying problem with AWS that required I re-engineer the Ymir CI workflow. It still takes 7h hours to run the entire test suite, but it would be over 10h hours without the work I did to parallelize things. I did a small tweet joking about it lol

I'm going to try to start working on a larger feature for this cycle. I don't know if I'll be successful. I tried this cycle and just couldn't concentrate enough to do anything constructive.

MARKETING

I didn't do any marketing work. I held on to the idea I might do a video on one of the new CLI features I released this cycle. But I never found the motivation to do it.

I'm also struggling with the idea of doing self-promotion while this is going. Especially on Twitter, it feels off to just tweet a lot about my business. If I have the energy/motivation, I'll try to start a new article.

BUSINESS

You can always view Ymir's up-to-date business metrics at ymirapp.com/open. They're updated every 10 minutes.

I jinxed myself saying I had 22 subscribers! The one I thought was for sure ended cancelling due to lack of time. That's how it goes sometimes.

So I'm still at 21 subscribers. I have one active trial and they're using Ymir, so hoping they convert. Otherwise, it's been quiet on the sign up front so far.

That said, we're still early in the month 🤞

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Heya! I did it! I have my first case study 🥳 Otherwise, I had a good time at WordCamp Europe. I had some good discussions there about the state of the hosting industry. They make me feel good about the long-term viability of Ymir, but doesn't really help in the short run. There hasn't been a lot of movement on the product this month. I came from Europe with...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Heya! Ymir was a bit more in the back seat in May as I focused on consulting work. This is more important as I'm still losing customers. Ymir won't be a full-time endeavour any time soon. I still want to do reports every two weeks. That said, I might skip here and there if there's not much to talk about. Not my ideal scenario, but I'm running a marathon so I...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Heya! Quiet cycle. Now that I'm done with the maintenance work, I'm back to working on the product. I'm slowly working towards the project creation feature, but I wanted to work on something smaller first. I ended up deciding to work on an activity feed. It's not such a small feature that I could ship it in two weeks. But I was able to wrap up and ship the...
