Ymir Report #57 — Messing up CloudFront rollout / GridPane partnership

Heya friend!

Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building.

INTRO

So, in the classic measure of shooting your mouth off, I said last update I was happy how bug and issue free Ymir was because of its test suite. Well, the CloudFront changes roll out did not live up to that. I temporarily broke some sites, and I had to rush and fix everything.

Even if it only affected a few customers, the whole situation was completely unacceptable. This was the first time I was doing an update that upgraded the Ymir architecture. I'm going to be more careful about how I approach this next time.

Otherwise, the other major news is my first partnership is public now! 🥳 It's with GridPane. I'll speak more about it in the business section.

PRODUCT

You can always view the history of Ymir's product development at https://ymirapp.com/changelog.

For this cycle, product development focused mainly on stabilizing the CloudFront cache policy rollout. It didn't take me long to fix the issue with what broke the websites for customers. But I needed more time to make the fundamental changes needed to make the feature stable in the long run.

The result is the ability to manage the cache policies for assets and web content. You can assign reusable policies to either of them. But you can also disable them to revert back to legacy CloudFront cache configuration.

MARKETING

Marketing week was very minimal again. I had a lot of days where I had personal things to take care of. The rest of the time, I had to focus on my consulting work.

I did record a podcast with Nathan Wrigley for WP Builds. Not sure when it's coming out, but I had a great time! Otherwise, I spent a bit of time with the GridPane announcement.

I still want to build a repo using 10up's headstart headless WordPress site template with Ymir. I would probably do an article with it as well. So that's my priority to get to this upcoming cycle.

BUSINESS

You can always view Ymir's up-to-date business metrics at ymirapp.com/open. They're updated every 10 minutes.

Rough two weeks. I really thought that the legacy plan would stabilize my subscriber count. But, finally, I'm ending the month at 37 subscribers. Back to the usual net gain of one.

That said, I have four trials right now for the personal plan. One of them is even testing it out for the enterprise plan. I will say that I'm very surprised to see that. I think some trials are coming from the GridPane FB group.

Speaking of the GridPane partnership, we recorded a 1h30 video for it. You can find it here. I'm happy that I can talk about it now! Patrick has been an OG believer in Ymir and I'm really happy to work with him.

There are a couple of things we want to do together. It's really exciting! For now though, we're focusing on doing a subscription bundle for agencies with Ymir and GridPane.

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Hey there! It's been a few weeks since my last update. My time in Japan wasn't as productive as I'd hoped it to be. The time zone wasn't friendly to me this time around and I wasn't able to get into a good work groove.Because of that, I mainly focused on consulting work and had nothing to share related to Ymir. I did manage to get some work done towards the...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Greetings from Japan! I've been here for the past two weeks after going to WordCamp Asia. This is probably my last trip to Asia for the foreseeable future. I will probably go to CloudFest instead of WordCamp Asia next year. I can't afford to do both. There has been little work done on Ymir because I had friends visiting Tokyo until last week. I've also been...

Heya friend! Carl here. You signed up to receive updates about Ymir, the WordPress serverless DevOps platform that I’m building. INTRO Heya! A bit late sending this report again. The last two weeks have been challenging personally and I've just focused on myself more. I did manage to get some things done, but I mostly took time for myself. #selfcare I got one product and one marketing change out. Business is still roughly in the same shape as before. I'm still thinking about things and...
